LSMW stands for Legacy System Migration Workbench.Its a tools used to transfer data from a legacy system to SAP R/3.A comparison of functions between the legacy system and the SAP system must have been carried out. There are 16 basic steps included in LSMW. They are Maintaining Object Attributes,Maintaining Source Structures,Maintaining Source Fields,Maintaining Structure Relationships,Maintaining Field Mapping and Conversion Rules,Maintaining Fixed Values, Conversions and User-Defined Routines, Specifying Files, Assigning Files, Importing Data,Displaying Imported Data,Converting Data, Displaying Converted Data,Starting IDoc Generation,Starting IDoc Processing,Creating an IDoc Overview and Start IDoc-Postprocessing.Each of these steps will be automatically displayed after the previous step.
LSM Workbench has mainly 4 level of authorization. They are Display,Execute, Change and Administration.
We need to enter transaction LSMW to get the initial screen ( first step of LSMW ). There we need to select project, sub project and a data object ( or choose create Entry menu for configuring a new one ). Then enter the name for that object and choose execute. Remember maximum 10 characters are allowed for a data object ID.
